Marathon Training

January 15th, 2007

I went for a 4-mile run this morning and for as surreal as life feels all of the time, this morning took it up a few notches. It was 8:45am and the sun was slowly rising, a small patch of rain clouds were slowly floating away, letting through the beautiful glowing rays of the sun. The temperature was a very comfortable 67 degrees and the humidity coated my skin like a gentle hug from someone who just took a hot shower. I followed the edge of a large lake that reminded me of its presence every time it redirected the suns rays off its waves into my eyes.

Before the run I had just woken up from a dream in which the weather was remarkably similar, and the dream was one of those that creates emotions that stay with you for a few hours after you wake up; making you wish you could have lived in that dream for much longer.

These moments make me question many things. So for the mean time, in the words of The Killers, “Smile like you mean it.”

Sky City

January 5th, 2007

For as often as I fly one thing never gets old. On those dreary days where the only thing you want to do is stay in bed or curl up next to the warmth of your fireplace with a cup of hot chocolate (mug of ale for me and me mate) is the moment upon take off where you breach the clouds and realize that at a certain altitude it is always sunny and blue sky. It’s amazing how quickly my mood lifts upon seeing this sight. It immediately conjures up visions of futuristic sky cities floating at 30,000ft where it never rains, hails, or snows. Every morning the sun kisses you with its warm yellow lips as you walk down your glass driveway to get the morning paper. You glance down at the tops of the storm clouds thousands of feet below and remember those dark dreary days of old wondering why anyone would choose to stay down there.
