I love to learn things that shake up what I’ve thought to be true:
The speed of light is generally rounded down to 186,000 miles per second. In exact terms it is 186,287.49 miles per second.
I’ve always thought that light travels at 186,000 miles per second. For some reason I never questioned such a perfect round number. Recognizing these things sooner is something I strive for.
A fact that I have been trying to find for the past year:
The Earth spins at 1,000 mph but it travels through space at an incredible 67,000 mph.
And just mind boggling:
Every hour the Universe expands by a billion miles in all directions.
The Universe contains over 100 billion galaxies.
Even traveling at the speed of light it would take 2 million years to reach the nearest large galaxy, Andromeda.

I had to close my guestbook because the amount of spam that I had to delete was getting very time consuming. I need to update to Wordpress 2.0 and install the Askimet plugin before I can open it again. If you want to send me a message use the contact link instead. It will be nice when we can look back and say “remember spam?”
In less than an hour it will be the one year anniversary of this site being live. Nice.
Almost 4 months now since I’ve had soda. I have to say that the first 2 months were very difficult. I’m finally to a point where I am not craving it at every meal. In fact, i think I am very close to losing all temptation.
I’m looking for recordings of Lenny PIckett. (tenor sax player from Saturday Night Live) I’m having major trouble finding anything. Shoot me a message if you know of anything out there.

Man…can you say talk box? How cool is that sound.
J.D. Salinger
A guy, Lane, is standing on a train platform in Boston in cold weather waiting for his long distance girlfriend to step off the long awaited train. A few of his friends are around and he is trying his best to look calm, cool, and non-excited.
Salinger has this to say as she steps off the train:
“Lane spotted her immediately, and despite whatever it was he was trying to do with his face, his arm that shot up into the air was the whole truth.”
From the novel: Franny and Zooey
And that’s all he says about it. It’s about the notes you don’t play that speak the most.
